The League of Parliamentarians for al-Quds (LPQ) appraised on Friday the Malaysian parliament’s (Dewan Rakyat) position calling for the expulsion of Israel from the United Nations, and its rejection of the Israeli annexation plans in the West Bank.
Dr. Muhammad Makram Balawi, LPQ’s General Director said: “The Malaysian position reflects the authenticity of the Malaysian people, their standing beside the Palestinians and their just cause.”
Balawi added that he is proud of the role of YB Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh, head of LPQ’s branch in Asia pacific, and a member of its executive body, who initiated a proposal in this regard during Thursday’s session.
He continued: “LPQ supports Syed’s efforts along with his colleagues in the Dewan Rakyat” noting that Syed is the Chairman of the Malaysian Palestinian Friendship Group.
Balawi stressed that Israel would not be deterred, unless there is real pressure on it from various countries, saying: “Only then Israel can take international institutions and international law seriously.”
At the end of his statement, Balawi called on other parliaments and peoples’ assemblies to follow the steps of the Malaysian Parliament, to oblige Israel recognizing the rights of the Palestinian people.
The plan is in line with President Donald Trump’s so-called Middle-East plan, which envisages a demilitarised Palestinian state on a patchwork of disjointed parts of the Palestinian territories.
The Israeli annexation was slated for July 1, but Israeli officials said the process would take place later this month in coordination with their American counterparts.
