Acting Speaker of the Legislative Council, Ahmed Bahr, on Wednesday, called upon international, Arab and Islamic parliamentary unions to honour their legal and humanitarian commitment and to seriously endeavour to save the lives of prisoners. He also called for punitive measures against the occupation for its grave violations against prisoners.
In an official address to the federations regarding the martyrdom of the Palestinian prisoner Kamal Abu Waer, Bahar held the Israeli occupation responsible for the death of the prisoner, who was ill with cancer; as the occupation pursued a policy of medical negligence against the prisoners.
He stressed that the repressive policy against prisoners is an organized crime and a flagrant violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention. He warning that the continued international silence on these practices will encourage its continuation.
